Where to Travel in November as a Foodie
November is here, and that means Thanksgiving is on the horizon. The inspiration for your next feast doesn't have to come from a Pinterest board. Bring a recipe from one of these cities to your table this year, or start planning to taste it in person next fall! Here are my top 3 city picks for foodies to visit this month.
Mexico City, Mexico
Fall brings the harvest season in Mexico City, so this is a great time to visit if you are looking to try mole. There are many ways to enjoy the rich spice flavors of mole, including enchiladas, tamales, or with a protein or vegetable. There are many types to try, like mole negro from the state of Oaxaca, or mole poblano from the state of Puebla. A day trip to the mole capital of San Pedro Atocpan could be a great way to learn about history while enjoying mole. For food lovers, mole is more than just a sauce; it is a cultural experience.
Kyoto, Japan
Today marks the beginning of snow crab season on Kyoto’s northern coast, meaning you can enjoy the crab along with other seafood like freshly caught yellowtail, oysters, shad, and mackerel. More luxurious seafood bowls combine a variety of delicious fresh fish, and snow crab dishes can be found at some of Kyoto’s top restaurants. You can also enjoy the dreamy fall foliage in Kyoto by visiting one of the city’s many outdoor trails or temples.
Charleston, South Carolina

Autumn in Charleston is the prime season for enjoying freshly caught seafood and delicious hearty meals from local harvests. Oyster roast, she-crab soup, and shrimp and grits are the most iconic meals in South Carolina this time of year. If you’re not a fan of fish, Charleston is also well known for its Southern sweet potato dishes and sweet pecan delicacies, so a sweet potato casserole or pecan pie may suit your tastes better. Charleston hosts harvest festivals like the Johns Island Country Park Harvest Festival with music, food, and activities for all ages, so if you’re looking to celebrate fall and enjoy great meals, you should plan a visit.
